Reason to Believe by Arch Enemy - 3/30/2025
It's Metal Monday again everyone! If you have not seen this series before, every Monday I will be sharing a metal track that I believe resonates with our individual professional journeys and to help those of us who struggle to get going on Monday mornings. (Plus, I get to share some of my favorite metal music with you all!)
I believe that maintaining core values is crucial for building trust and fostering long-term relationships in my personal and professional life. Over the weekend I was thinking about everything that is going on in the world and how exhausting it can be. That lead me to pick a couple of topics to touch on this week: Understanding and Acceptance, Perseverance, and Empowerment. For these topics, I decided to jump back across the pond and give some love to my favorite Swedish band Arch Enemy for their song “Reason to Believe”.
I’m going breakdown this song a little different compared to how I have in previous weeks. I want to breakdown each topic and pick lyrics that relate to the topic. As you read through this article, think about how you can apply these themes to your work, no matter your position or role, and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments on the LinkedIn post!
Empowerment
Lyrics:
There's a scar on your heart
But your journey's just begun
A distant light that's worth the fight
The story's far from done
These lines emphasize the idea of empowerment by acknowledging past struggles ("scar on your heart") while highlighting that these challenges are just the beginning of a journey. The "distant light that's worth the fight" symbolizes hope and the drive to keep pushing forward. In the context of business, this can be interpreted as the empowerment that comes from overcoming obstacles and continuing to strive for success with integrity and transparency.
Perseverance
Lyrics:
There's a reason to believe again
There's a reason to go on
Always keep on fighting, my friend
There's a reason to believe.
These lines emphasize the importance of continuing to fight and move forward, even when faced with challenges. The repeated encouragement to "keep on fighting" highlights the necessity of perseverance in overcoming obstacles. In the context of business, this can be interpreted as the drive to push through difficult times, maintain transparency, and uphold respectful practices, even when the going gets tough.
Understanding and Acceptance
Lyrics:
They don't understand you
And they hate what they don't understand
You are more than they'll ever know
These lines highlight the struggle of being misunderstood and the importance of accepting oneself despite others' perceptions. In the context of business, this can be interpreted as the need for transparency and respectful practices. Understanding and accepting differences can lead to better communication and stronger relationships with clients and colleagues. It encourages professionals to stay true to their values and not let external judgments hinder their progress.
As we wrap up this week's Metal Monday, remember that the themes of Empowerment, Perseverance, and Understanding and Acceptance are not just lyrics in a song. Arch Enemy's "Reason to Believe" serves as a reminder of these values and how they can inspire us to stay true to ourselves even in the face of adversity.
How do you see these themes playing out in your own journey? Have you faced situations where perseverance, understanding, or empowerment made a difference? Share your thoughts in the comments on the LinkedIn post—I’d love to hear your stories and insights!
Stay tuned for next week's Metal Monday! Until then, keep rocking and stay strong!
